What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a no-downtime method of exfoliating the skin and temporarily removing facial hair. This procedure is a skin-revitalizing treatment that removes the dead, outer layer of skin. This leaves a smoother texture and promotes the growth of healthy, new skin cells. Removing the outermost layer of dead skin also allows better penetration of whatever products are patients are using on their skin.
What Method we use
The face is gently cleansed and then prepared with an alcohol wipe. A scalpel is closely and carefully moved back and forth across the face, removing dead skin cells and vellus (“peach fuzz”) facial hair. This exfoliates and shaves the face closer than a razor, and with longer-lasting results than with a razor. It is painless and effective, and results are seen and felt immediately. It is considered a “lunchtime” procedure, which means it can be performed over a lunch hour, and you can return to your normal activities immediately after treatment. It is advisable to avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for a at least a few days after your treatment, and a sunscreen is essential to use afterwards, since exfoliated skin has temporarily lost some of its natural protection to the environment. Facial hair will not grow back darker or thicker; it will grow back at the same rate as before dermaplaning was performed. Cosmetics can be worn immediately after the procedure.
Dermaplaning can be performed on all skin types, diminishes fine lines, helps products penetrate the skin, and results in smoother-appearing skin and smoother application of cosmetics. It can be used to improve minor to moderate early aging fine lines.
